Sometimes when I step back and ponder the things that matter, I realize that I have lived an EASY life. I have been surrounded by people that love me and given more than I have ever needed or deserved. But recently I have realized an even greater gift God has given our family. Love...and I am talking the REAL thing. Take these two...

And then there is my mom and dad. I recently watched as my dad kissed my mom off to surgery and then paced the floors of the hospital for over 10 hours until he was able to hold her hand again. I watched as he buttered up the staff in the waiting room when asking about her in the recovery room..."ma'am, I don't know how much longer I can wait before seeing my sweetheart" ... as he laughed and she quickly walked away and back again giving 2 of us the ok
for a quick visit.
You might ask why I am even thinking about this? In church yesterday, Pastor Johnny read a love letter from a wife to a husband that is fighting a disease that has taken control of his entire body except 1 eye. She reminded him of all the things he had done throughout his life that made her feel loved and cared for...and I started thinking of my parents and our life.
It immediately hit me...ICED TEA! I remember my dad walking in the house after a long days work and mom yelling to us kids to help him carry in the groceries. She promptly, every night around 9:30 made him a big glass of iced tea. It is funny how that glass of iced tea let us kids know how much she loved him, isn't it? He would walk in and the first thing they would do is give each other a hug and kiss and he grabbed his iced tea! I am guessing...if ever my dad was to remind my mom of the things she did that let him know she loved him...that glass of iced tea would be on the list!
So then I pondered and me and Chris briefly discussed...what are the things we do daily that are not often thought about that shows our love for each other...or better yet, what will our kids remember about us and the way we lived with each other that assures them we are and were always "mad" about each other?
Time will tell, but I do know this...she will be watching!
